The Challenge

Why Bladder Leaks Happen and How Emsella Helps

A common problem with a real solution

The pelvic floor is a sling of muscles that supports the bladder, bowel and, in women, the uterus. Pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, prostate surgery, weight gain, chronic coughing and aging can all weaken it. When these muscles lose strength, you may leak when you laugh, lift or exercise, or feel sudden urges to rush to the bathroom. Many people quietly limit travel, workouts or time with family because of it.

Emsella works the pelvic floor directly. While you sit on the chair, HIFEM energy produces strong, repeated contractions that are hard to match by squeezing on your own. Over a series of sessions, this can rebuild strength and control. Because the pelvic floor works with your deep core muscles, Emsella also fits naturally with posture, back comfort and core strength goals in a broader plan.

Good to Know

What Is Emsella?

HIFEM technology for the pelvic floor

Emsella is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive pelvic floor therapy device made by BTL. It stimulates and strengthens the pelvic floor muscles to treat urinary incontinence in women and men. The NIDDK explains common types of bladder control problems and how they are treated.

You sit on the Emsella chair fully clothed. A focused electromagnetic field in the seat reaches the pelvic floor and causes deep, rhythmic contractions that feel like tingling and tightening. A standard series is six sessions, twice a week. Published studies in women and men report better bladder control and quality of life, and many patients notice changes during the series.

Safety Information

Emsella Side Effects and Safety

What is normal and what to report

Common Effects

Emsella is non-invasive and generally well tolerated. The most common effects are mild and temporary: muscle soreness in the pelvic floor, a feeling of tiredness in the area or brief tingling. These usually fade within a day.

Less Common Effects

Some people notice short-term changes in bladder or bowel habits, or mild discomfort in the lower back or hips. Tell our team if anything feels wrong during a session, and the intensity will be lowered or the session stopped.

Who Needs Extra Review

Because Emsella uses a strong electromagnetic field, it is not used with pacemakers, electronic implants, metal near the pelvis, a copper IUD or during pregnancy. Dr. Boler screens your history at the consultation. The Urology Care Foundation of the AUA offers more about bladder control.

Emsella FAQ

How much does Emsella cost in Gulf Breeze, FL?

Emsella pricing is personalized and reviewed at your consultation, because cost depends on the number of sessions and whether you combine it with other care. Ready Pain Management is a self-pay practice and does not accept insurance. Financing through InstaPaytient, offered through Affirm, is available subject to approval, with terms set by the financing provider.

How long does an Emsella session take?

An Emsella session takes about 28 minutes. You sit on the Emsella chair fully clothed while it works, and you can read, rest or talk with our team. There is no numbing and no recovery time, so you can drive home, return to work or run errands right after your session.

Does the Emsella chair hurt?

No, the Emsella chair is not painful for most people. You feel tingling and strong tightening of the pelvic floor muscles, a little like an intense squeeze. Our team starts at a lower intensity and raises it as you are comfortable. Some people feel mild muscle soreness afterward, which fades quickly.

Do I need to undress for Emsella?

No. You stay fully clothed for the entire Emsella session. The electromagnetic field passes through clothing to reach the pelvic floor, so there is no gown, no exam and no probe. Remove metal items such as keys and phones from your pockets before you sit down, and our team will help you get positioned.

How many Emsella sessions will I need?

A standard Emsella series is six sessions, about twice a week over three weeks. Dr. Boler may adjust the plan based on your symptoms and goals. Some patients choose occasional maintenance sessions later to help keep their results, which we discuss at your follow-up visits, in person or by telemedicine.

When will I notice results from Emsella?

Many patients notice fewer leaks or less urgency during their six-session series, and improvement can continue for several weeks afterward. Results vary with the type of incontinence, how long you have had it and your overall health. We track leaks, pad use and nighttime bathroom trips so you can see your progress.

Can men use Emsella?

Yes. Emsella is FDA cleared to treat urinary incontinence in both women and men. Men often use it for bladder leaks after prostate treatment or surgery, or for urgency and weak pelvic floor control. Dr. Boler reviews your history first to make sure Emsella is a safe and sensible choice for you.

How is Emsella different from other pelvic floor therapy?

Emsella does the muscle work for you while you sit fully clothed, while traditional pelvic floor therapy depends on daily training with correct technique. Many people struggle to find and contract the right muscles on their own. Emsella creates strong contractions in short sessions, and some patients combine both approaches for the best support.

Who is a good candidate for Emsella?

Women and men, often in their 30s to 60s and older, with stress, urge or mixed bladder leaks are good candidates. This includes women after childbirth or during menopause and men after prostate treatment. People with pacemakers, metal implants in the pelvis, a copper IUD or pregnancy need a different option.

Can I do my Emsella consultation by telemedicine?

Yes. Your Emsella consultation and follow-up visits can be done by telemedicine, which helps patients in Navarre, Milton, Pensacola and beyond. The Emsella sessions themselves are performed in person at our Gulf Breeze office on Thursdays and Fridays. Telemedicine also runs Monday and Tuesday evenings.
